Georgia is both a business-friendly country that offers great opportunities for business and a safe country that offers low-cost living. If you are considering getting a residence permit or are already here and planning to switch from a visa to a residence permit, there are several different options that will allow you to obtain a temporary residence permit in Georgia. In this article, we will discuss the different methods and process of obtaining a work permit in Georgia and some of the benefits associated with it. Here are the methods that will enable you to obtain a residence permit in Georgia:
1. Work Residence Permit:
A work permit is an important document issued to people who come for entrepreneurial or working activities in Georgia. To apply for a work permit, you must meet the following criteria:
• You must have a working contract (or working document) for at least 6 months. This condition applies even if you are the sponsoring Limited Liability Company (LLC) or Individual Entrepreneur (IE).
• You must prove that you have sufficient financial resources to support yourself during the residence permit. The duration for the first permit will be between 6 and 12 months and can be extended up to 11 years for future permits.
• The business volume of the sponsoring LLC or IE in the last 12 months must exceed 50,000 GEL (Georgian Lari) for each foreigner (director or employee). This criterion also applies to foreigners who already have a residence permit.
When applying for a work permit you must submit the following documents:
• A copy of the Registry of the sponsoring LLC or IE (document proving the existence of an LLC or IE in Georgia),
• A copy of the applicant's travel document (usually a passport),
• A document proving the applicant's legal residence in Georgia (most residence permits have a validity period of at least 40 days),
• A document documenting employment or entrepreneurial activity, showing monthly income,
• A document showing the number of foreigners working in the sponsoring IE or LLC,
• Document showing the total business volume of the LLC or IE,
• A 3x4 photo of the applicant (in electronic format),
• A receipt showing payment of the service fee.
You can receive the result of your work permit application within a minimum of 10 days and a maximum of 30 days.
