1. Who Can Get a Student Residence Permit?
It is possible for people with a family residence permit to receive education in primary and secondary education institutions until the age of eighteen without obtaining a student residence permit. For this reason, those who do not have a family residence permit but will be studying at primary and secondary education level
Student residence permits can be issued to foreigners.
A student residence permit can also be issued for foreign students of associate degree, bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctoral programs who will study at a higher education institution in Turkey.
Those who receive Specialization in Medicine (TUS) and Specialization in Dentistry (DUS) training and those who are directed to a Turkish language course by their university will be able to obtain a student residence permit. Additionally, a student residence permit can be issued for those who come as students within the scope of the Erasmus Program and other international exchange programs.
2. What are the Conditions of Student Residence Permit?
The conditions of the student residence permit are regulated in Article 39 of the Law on Foreigners and International Protection. According to this;
• Foreign students must submit supporting information and documents regarding the purpose of stay in Turkey.
• The person applying for a student residence permit must provide the address information where he/she will stay in Turkey to the Provincial Directorate of Immigration Management.
• Foreigners who will not be allowed to enter Turkey, listed in Article 7 of the Law on Foreigners and International Protection
The student cannot apply for a residence permit.
  3. Transitions Between Student Residence Permit and Other Residence Permits
A foreigner who holds one of the residence permits may return to the same residence permit after the expiry of the basis for granting the residence permit.
He/she may apply for a residence permit for a different reason. For example, a foreigner who stays in the country with a family residence permit may later switch to a student residence permit.
Likewise, it is possible for a foreigner who has a student residence permit to obtain a family residence permit if he/she meets the conditions. A family residence permit is issued for this person, and as long as the student continues to meet the conditions of the residence permit, he or she can benefit from the same rights provided by the student residence permit.
If the foreigner has a family residence permit and is entitled to obtain a student residence permit, the foreigner's family residence permit is maintained as is. In addition, the foreign student will benefit from the same rights provided by the residence permit.
Likewise, if a foreigner who has a work permit also meets the conditions for obtaining a student residence permit, his work permit will continue. In addition, this person can benefit from the same rights provided by the student residence permit.
Finally, foreigners who have a humanitarian residence permit or a residence permit for victims of human trafficking can benefit from the rights provided by this permit without switching to a student residence permit, provided that they meet the conditions for obtaining a student residence permit.
4. Student Residence Permit Duration and Extension
According to the regulation of Article 38 of the Foreign and International Protection Law, the duration of the student residence permit may vary depending on the education period of the foreign national. Primary and secondary school students are issued a residence permit of up to one year, valid from the start of education until the beginning of the next academic year.
Residence permit for foreigners who are studying for an associate degree, bachelor's degree, master's degree or doctorate degree at a higher education institution in Turkey is issued to cover the entire education program. The residence permit of a student who does not graduate during the normal education period can be extended for a maximum of one year and not to exceed the maximum education period. The graduate student's residence permit is terminated as of the graduation date. Within ten days from this date, the person must apply to the Provincial Directorate of Immigration for a residence permit suitable for the new purpose of stay.

5. What are the Required Documents for Student Residence Permit?
There are many documents that need to be prepared when applying for a student residence permit. It should be noted that different documents may be required for each applicant student, depending on that student's special situation. However, in general, the documents required for each type of student can be listed as follows:
• Residence Permit Application Form
• Original and photocopy of passport or a substitute document
• 4 biometric (ICAO standards) photographs.
• Receipts showing that the necessary fees have been paid
• Health insurance
- Criminal Record
• Active student certificate
• Documents proving sufficient financial means for the duration of the residence permit
Document showing the place to stay if a residence permit is granted
• Additional documents if necessary depending on the situation

6. Is it possible to work in Turkey with a student residence permit?
Associate, undergraduate, master's and doctoral students receiving formal education in Turkey also have the right to work if they obtain a work permit. Students who receive a work permit are not obliged to obtain a student residence permit during the validity period of this permit. However, these people must obtain a student residence permit when the work permit expires or is not extended. However, it should be noted that; For associate and undergraduate students, the right to work starts after the first year. Applications for work permits are made to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
Rejection, Cancellation or Non-Extension of Student Residence Permit Request
If the conditions for the student residence permit are not met or no longer exist, the student residence permit will not be issued.
