People who have lost their citizenship of the Republic of Turkey due to their parents, who have lost their citizenship of the Republic of Turkey by obtaining an exit permit, and who submit a written notification to acquire Turkish citizenship within three years after they become adults (turning 18 years of age), can acquire Turkish citizenship by exercising the right to choose.
Loss of Turkish citizenship with the right to choose takes effect from the date of the Ministry's decision on the determination of the existence of conditions for the exercise of this right. Foreign passport holders who want to acquire Turkish citizenship by exercising their right to choose can exercise their right to vote by submitting a written petition to the governorship authorities in Turkey and to foreign representatives abroad. Acquiring Turkish citizenship through the right to choose does not depend on the acceptance decision of the competent authorities. Acquiring or renouncing Turkish citizenship by exercising the right to choose does not affect the citizenship of the spouse.

Can the spouse and children of the person who gained Turkish Citizenship as a result of the application also acquire Turkish Citizenship? If Turkish Citizenship is acquired through the right to choose, the spouse of the person who acquires Turkish Citizenship cannot acquire Turkish Citizenship directly. However, he/she gains this right if he/she fulfills all the conditions to acquire Turkish Citizenship through marriage. The person's children under the age of 18 (underage) can become Turkish Citizens as a result of the consent given by the other spouse at the notary office. Children over the age of 18 (who have become adults) can acquire Turkish Citizenship through different methods, for example, according to general provisions.
