What is ALES?

What is ALES?
ALES, which stands for Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Exam, is organized three times a year by ÖSYM in 81 provinces for the recruitment of graduate students to higher education institutions and for appointments to positions such as lecturers, lecturers, research assistants, experts, translators and education and training planners. It is an exam consisting of 2 tests and 100 questions, with a score range between 50 and 100. As its name suggests, ALES, which is taken for postgraduate education, is also a decisive exam in determining the candidates who will be sent abroad for postgraduate education.

What is ALES used for?
ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination) score is used when applying for master's degree with thesis, academic staff positions (such as research assistant, lecturer, lecturer, expert translator) and doctorate. In addition to all these, ALES score is also effective in determining the candidates to be sent abroad for postgraduate education.
Who Can Take ALES?
Anyone who has graduated from any undergraduate program or is eligible to take it, or who has completed undergraduate education abroad but has received an equivalence certificate, can take ALES. There is no age restriction to enter ALES. Candidates who successfully complete the application process and pay the application fee on time are entitled to take the exam. There are documents that candidates who are eligible to take the exam must have with them while taking the exam, as well as some items that are prohibited to have with them. The documents that candidates taking ALES must have with them are listed below:

Exam Entry Document: All candidates who will take ALES must bring with them the entrance document that includes the information about the center, building and hall where the candidate will take the exam, and his/her photograph. While having a color or black and white printout of this document does not affect the exam entry, if there is no photograph of the candidate on the document or if there is a text or picture added later anywhere on the document, the exams of the candidates who come with this document are considered invalid.
Identity Card with Photo: Another document that candidates must have with them is their identity card with photo. Candidates who cannot take their photo ID card with them for any reason must apply to T.R. He/she can also take with him the original of his/her ID Card or unexpired passport with photo. It is mandatory for candidates to have any of these. Other than these documents, documents such as driver's license, professional ID cards or student ID cards are not accepted.
How Many Minutes is the ALES Exam?
ALES starts at 10.15 and is an exam that lasts 150 minutes, i.e. 2.5 hours. Candidates taking the exam must under no circumstances leave the hall within the first 110 minutes and the last 15 minutes after the exam starts. Regardless of the reason, any candidate who leaves the exam hall is not accepted back into the exam hall.

What are the Course Subjects in ALES?
Candidates taking ALES are faced with tests from numerical and verbal courses. The purpose of numerical tests is to measure the candidate's numerical and logical reasoning skills and consists of 50 questions. The purpose of the verbal test is to measure the candidate's verbal reasoning ability. In the verbal test, candidates are asked 50 questions. These questions, which are asked to measure the skills and knowledge of all candidates who have graduated from different fields or who will be graduates of different fields, are in Turkish and consist of various topics.
